Google UX Capstone – Game Library App

UX Design • 2023 • Certification Project

Overview

A mobile-first app designed to help players collect, browse, and replay classic games with social features like high score tracking and player profiles.
Role: UX Researcher & UI Designer
Tools: Figma, FigJam, Google Forms, Adobe XD (optional)

Problem

Many retro gamers collect and revisit games from their childhood, but there are few mobile platforms that support both cataloging and replaying games in one place. Users also wanted to compare scores, show off collections, and socialize around gameplay—all without bloated interfaces or confusing filters.

My Approach

  • Interviewed 5 casual gamers to understand preferences in browsing, favorites, and score tracking
  • Sketched initial wireframes, tested nav patterns using card sort and first-click tasks
  • Created high-fidelity Figma prototype with core screens: sign-up, game feed, game library, leaderboard, profile
  • Conducted usability testing with think-aloud protocol and task-based scenarios
  • Iterated based on pain points in button placement, card size, and login friction
  • UX Decisions

    Final Build

Fully clickable Figma prototype showing end-to-end flows for onboarding, game library interaction, and social leaderboard. Designed for mobile-first with responsive components.

    Reflection

I learned how powerful clean navigation and feedback loops are in apps where users return often. Designing for clarity, familiarity, and flow helped me better understand what keeps users engaged—and where friction can cost retention. I'm proud of how well the final layout balanced fun and function.
